Broste block salt is an excellent value product for 4kg block water softening systems. It is a high-purity, food-grade vacuum salt, primarily used in water softeners to effectively remove hardness-causing minerals like calcium and magnesium from water. Each pack contains two 4 kg blocks, totalling 8 kg per pack.

Key Features of Broste Block Salt:

  • High Purity: Manufactured to stringent standards, Broste block salt ensures efficient performance in water softening systems.
  • Compatibility: Designed for use in various block salt-compatible water softeners, ensuring versatility across different models.
  • Ease of Use: The uniform block shape allows for straightforward handling and consistent dissolution within the softener unit.

In addition to block salt, we also offer tablet and granular salt options, you can find these below in related products. Traditional, round tablets are approximately 25 mm in diameter and are usually made from food-grade, pure dried vacuum salt with 99.9% NaCl purity, complying with BS EN 973: 2009 standards.

When selecting between block and tablet salt, you should consider your specific water softener’s design and manufacturer recommendations to ensure optimal performance. Always ensure that the salt type you choose is compatible with your water softener model to maintain its efficiency and longevity.

Salt blocks are a compact solution for use in water softening systems for industrial and domestic purposes. Blocks of water softening salt treat hard water by removing minerals like calcium and magnesium, which cause scaling and reduce the efficiency of appliances and plumbing. Your machine may only be able to use blocks or you may be able to decide if blocks or tablets are best for your system.

Why choose blocks instead of tablets?

1. Space Efficiency

  • Compact Design: Salt blocks take up less space compared to loose salt pellets or crystals, which makes them ideal for smaller brine tanks or areas with limited storage.

2. Longer Dissolution Time

  • Steady Supply: Blocks dissolve more slowly than pellets or crystals, ensuring a consistent and gradual release of salt for the regeneration cycle. This minimizes the risk of overdosing the system.
  • Reduced Maintenance: Slower dissolution means less frequent refilling and a steady brine concentration in the tank.

3. Uniform Regeneration

  • Consistent Softening: Blocks provide a more uniform salt dissolution rate, which can lead to more effective regeneration of the resin beads inside the softener.

4. Cleaner Option

  • Less Dust and Debris: Unlike loose salt, blocks produce less salt dust or particles, keeping the brine tank cleaner.

5. Durability in Moisture

  • Lower Clumping Risk: In humid conditions, loose salt pellets can clump together and become unusable. Salt blocks are less susceptible to this issue.

When Are Blocks Not Ideal?

  • Harder to Handle: Blocks can be heavy (4kg) and more awkward to lift compared to loose salt.
  • Compatibility: Some water softeners are designed specifically for pellets or crystals and may not perform as efficiently with blocks.
  • Potential for Channelling: In larger tanks, the uniform shape of blocks can cause “channelling,” where water bypasses parts of the salt, reducing efficiency.
  • British salt
  • Pure sodium chloride, no additives
  • This product conforms to EN 973
