Granulite salt refers to salt in granular form, typically made vacuum evaporation to achieve high purity and uniform granule size. It is versatile and used in a variety of applications across multiple industries due to its controlled size and high sodium chloride content. Below are its common uses:
1. Water Treatment
- Water Softening: Granulite salt is used in water softeners to regenerate ion exchange resins. Its granular form ensures efficient dissolution and performance in softening hard water.
- Swimming Pool Salt: It can be used in chlorination systems for saltwater pools, ensuring clean and safe water.
2. Food Industry
- Food Processing: While granulite salt may not always be food-grade, specific grades are used in food manufacturing for baking, curing, seasoning, or as a preservative. You can find PDV salt for food grade uses in the related products below.
- Pickling and Brining: Granulite salt is preferred in these processes due to its even distribution and purity.
3. Industrial Applications
- Chemical Manufacturing: Used as a raw material in the production of industrial chemicals like chlorine, caustic soda, and soda ash.
- Dyeing and Textiles: Utilised for dye fixation in textile processes.
- Oil and Gas Industry: In drilling operations, granulite salt is added to drilling muds to stabilize formations and prevent well collapse.
4. De-Icing
- Granulite salt is sometimes used for de-icing roads, pathways, and other surfaces, though coarser salts are often preferred for this purpose.
5. Pharmaceutical and Medical Uses
- High-purity granulite salt may be used in pharmaceutical processes for manufacturing medical-grade products where consistent quality and minimal impurities are critical.
6. Animal Feed
- Granulite salt is used in animal feed formulations to provide essential sodium and chloride for livestock and poultry health.
7. Cleaning and Hygiene
- It is incorporated in certain cleaning products and hygiene applications, where controlled solubility and purity are essential.
Advantages of Granulite Salt
- Uniform Granule Size: Ensures predictable dissolution rates.
- High Purity: Suitable for applications demanding minimal impurities.
- Versatility: Can be tailored for various industries, including food, pharmaceuticals, and water treatment.
