Our binding wire opening tool from Renz is an easy solution to trying to rip out binding wire from old bound books – this handy tool makes it simple and easy to open and then remove the binding wire. It is a hand held device with a widening point that is run through the centre of a binding wire starting from the end to cleanly open it without spoiling the document.
To use, place the document down with the wire seam showing, position the nose of the ring wire opener tool into the wire seam. Slide the device all the way along the wire seam, now you can easily remove the opened binding wire. If any additional pre punched sheets are required they can now be added and re bound using a new colour or binding element.

Removing the binding from a book may be necessary for various reasons. It will help for recycling as you are able to separate the metal wire from the paper pages. It allows for individual pages to be scanned, photocopied, or digitized, enabling easy sharing or archiving of specific content. Rebinding can be necessary to repair or replace damaged covers, ensuring the book’s longevity. Modification or updating content might also require unbinding and rebinding. The binding wire opening tool has other applications too for plastic comb binding when you want to quickly remove a comb.
